Colour and protection in one film
Vinyl wrap changes the colour. Colour PPF changes the colour and protects the paint, because it is a thick urethane film rather than a thin vinyl. It stands up better to stone chips, gravel and branches.
The factory paint stays underneath. If you change your mind later, the film can be removed. In the photo, Defcon Spectra Satin Liquid Grey is going onto the bonnet of a Tesla Model Y RWD.

Edges, jambs and the details
A colour change is judged at the edges. We wrap the film around panel edges where they allow, so the old colour does not show at the gaps. On some cars we remove parts, or the doors, so the film can reach the jambs.
On this LandCruiser 78 Troop Carrier in Defcon Spectra, the door jambs, B-pillars and door shut faces are in the same grey, and the door trims came off so the film could finish inside the door edges.

What affects the price
How big the car is and how many curves and vents it has, how much of it you cover, and the film you choose: satin and colour film cost more than clear gloss. Film locks in whatever is underneath, so if the paint needs correcting first, we say so and include it in your quote before any work starts.

How a colour change works
Four steps, from choosing the colour under the studio lights to the check two weeks after you collect the car.
01 · First visit
Choose the colour in the studio
Colours look different on a screen, so we choose in person. You see the samples and finished cars under the studio lights, and we confirm the coverage and the price in a written quote.

Film ordered for your car
Colour PPF is ordered for each car once the colour is chosen. It takes about 1–2 weeks to arrive, and we book the studio days around it.

Parts off, film on
The car is washed and prepared, then badges, lights and trim come off where the film needs to run behind them. The film is laid panel by panel and wrapped around the edges, and into the jambs where you choose it.

04 · Pick-up, then two weeks later
Handover and two-week check
We walk you around the car at pick-up and register Defcon film on e-Warranty. We recommend bringing the car back after two weeks so we can check every edge and fix anything straight away.

Can colour PPF be removed?
Yes. It is a film, not paint, so the factory paint is still there underneath.
How long does a colour change take?
We order the film for your car once you have chosen the colour, and it takes about 1–2 weeks to arrive. The car is then with us for 5–7 working days.
Is colour PPF better than a vinyl wrap?
For protection, yes: colour PPF is thicker and takes stone chips that vinyl would not. Vinyl costs less and comes in more colours, so it can suit a car where a new look is the main goal.
Can you do a two-tone or partial colour change?
Yes. We have fitted colour PPF over part of a car, such as the upper body of a Mercedes-Maybach S 580, with clear PPF on the rest.
What warranty comes with colour PPF?
Colour PPF carries a manufacturer warranty of 6 to 10 years depending on brand, registered on Defcon’s e-Warranty before you collect the car. It covers defects in the film, not damage from impacts or normal ageing.
How do I wash a car in colour PPF?
Leave it for the first week after fitting. After that, hand wash with a clean mitt and a pH-neutral shampoo, and keep pressure washer nozzles away from the film edges. On satin film, skip waxes and polishes, which can leave shiny patches.
Can I see the colours before I choose?
Yes, and we recommend it. Come to the studio and see the colour samples and finished cars under the studio lights. Colour PPF is ordered for each car, so colours are chosen from samples in the studio.
