Common questions

Paint protection film

Clear film that takes the stone chips instead of your paint.

What is paint protection film?

A clear urethane film laid over the paint. It takes stone chips and light scratches so the paint underneath does not. The films we fit, Defcon Glanz in gloss and Defcon Frozen in satin, are about 190 microns thick with a self-healing top coat.

Paint Protection Film
Which film brands do you use?

Defcon Glanz and Defcon Frozen for clear film, and Defcon Spectra and Inozetek Dynamic PPF for colour changes. We are an authorised Defcon installer.

How much of the car should I cover?

If the car does freeway kilometres, cover the front end at least: bumper, bonnet, front guards, mirrors and headlights. Front End + Full Sides adds the doors, sills and rear quarters, and Full Car covers every painted panel.

Do you remove parts, or cut the film on the car?

Badges, trim and parts come off where the film needs to tuck behind them. Film is cut on our computer plotter or by hand, as each panel needs, and every edge and corner is wrapped.

Does PPF heal scratches?

Light scratches in the top coat close up with heat, from the sun or warm water. A scratch that cuts through the top coat stays, but the paint underneath is still protected, and that panel’s film can be replaced on its own.

Can PPF go on matte or satin paint?

Yes, in satin film. It protects factory matte or satin paint without making it shine.

Should I get PPF or a ceramic coating?

PPF if stone chips are the worry; a coating does not stop them. A coating if you want more gloss and easier washing. Many owners have film on the front and a coating over the rest.

Common questions

Colour changes

A new colour in protective film or vinyl, with no respray.

Colour PPF or vinyl wrap?

Colour PPF changes the colour and stops stone chips, from $7,850 for a full car. Vinyl we fit for partial wraps and accents — a roof, bonnet, mirrors or chrome delete — at a lower cost, with the widest choice of colours, but it gives far less impact protection.

How long does a colour change take?

Colour PPF takes 5–7 working days in the studio. The film is ordered for your car and takes about 1–2 weeks to arrive first. A vinyl partial wrap, such as a roof or bonnet, takes 2–3 working days.

Can I choose any colour?

Vinyl has the widest range, in gloss, satin, matte and metallic. Colour PPF comes from the Defcon Spectra and Inozetek Dynamic PPF ranges.

Do you do roofs, mirrors and chrome delete?

Yes. Roofs, mirrors, bonnets, chrome delete and badge blackouts are common smaller jobs, and take 2–3 working days.

Will a wrap or film damage my paint?

On sound factory paint, no: the film can be removed later. Resprayed or damaged paint is a risk with any film, so we check the paint before we start.

Common questions

Ceramic coating and paint correction

Gloss and easier washing, on clean, corrected paint.

What does a ceramic coating do?

It cures into a thin, hard, slick layer that adds gloss and makes water and dirt slide off, so the car is easier to wash. It is too thin to stop stone chips.

Is paint correction included with a coating?

In our coating packages, yes: a decontamination wash, clay treatment and paint correction come first, from $1,499 including GST. If your paint needs no correction, you can book the coating only.

Which coatings do you use?

Gtechniq: Crystal Serum Light, Crystal Serum Ultra with EXOv5, C5 Wheel Armour on the wheels and G1 ClearVision Smart Glass on the outside of the glass. On film we use Labocosmetica Armorius, in gloss or matte.

Can I get paint correction on its own?

Yes. A one-stage correction of the full car starts from $800, including GST. How long it takes depends on the paint.

Do you have packages for new cars?

Yes, in four stages: a ceramic coating on its own, a stronger coating with wheels, then adding window tint, then adding front end PPF.

Common questions

Window tinting

Nano-ceramic tint, fitted to WA legal limits.

Which tint do you fit?

Nano-ceramic film: Defcon CoolVue and ZR Films NOVA. It has no metal layer, so phone and GPS signals are not affected.

How much is tint, and how long does it take?

A full car starts from $550, including GST, and is done within one working day.

My car has privacy glass. Do the rear windows still need tint?

We recommend a light film over it. Privacy glass is darkened in the glass, but it lets most infrared heat through and its UV blocking varies. A light nano-ceramic film adds heat and UV rejection with little change in shade, and we check each window with a light meter so it stays at 20% or more, the WA limit.

Can you tint a fixed glass roof?

We do not tint the inside of fixed glass roofs, because the film soaks up heat in the glass and raises the risk of a crack. We fit Defcon Crystal Shield on the outside instead, from $600 including GST.

How much does PPF cost?

From $2,000 for the front end of a car and $5,500 for a full car in gloss film, including GST.

Do your prices include GST?

Yes. Every price on our website includes GST.

How do I get a quote?

Common questions

Booking and your visit

How a job is booked, and what happens while the car is with us.

Can I book online?

Send us an enquiry with the days that suit, and we book you in. Bookings are made by our team, so we can plan the time your car needs.

Can I visit the studio first?

Yes. Come and see the films on real cars and talk the job through. We are at 2/38 Sarich Court, Osborne Park WA 6017. Hours: Mon–Fri 9:30am–5:30pm; Sat 9:30am–3:00pm; Sun closed.

Can I see a sample on my own car?

For clear gloss and clear satin PPF, yes: we fit a small sample on your car. Colour PPF is ordered for each car, so samples are not available for colour.

I live outside Perth. Can you still do my car?

Yes. Customers come to us from across Western Australia. We quote from photos first, book the work on consecutive days, and do the follow-up check on your next trip to Perth.

Do you have a courtesy car?

Yes, when one is free. Ask for it when we book you in and we tell you whether one is available for your dates. We do not offer a pick-up service.

How long will my car be with you?

PPF: 2–3 working days for a front end, 3–4 for front end and full sides, and 5–7 for a full car. Ceramic coating: 2–3 working days with paint correction, or 1–2 for the coating only. Tint: within one working day. Paint correction: 1–2 working days for one stage, 2–3 for two. Detailing: 1–2 working days for a full detail. Dent removal depends on the job.

Common questions

Aftercare and warranty

What to do after pick-up, and what the warranty covers.

When can I wash my car after PPF?

Leave it unwashed for the first week. After that, hand wash it with a pH-neutral shampoo.

Do I need to bring the car back?

Yes, two weeks after pick-up. We check every edge and corner for lifting or peeling and fix anything there and then.

What warranty do I get?

We register Defcon film on Defcon’s e-Warranty. Defcon Glanz and Frozen carry a ten-year manufacturer warranty, and colour PPF 6 to 10 years depending on brand. It covers defects in the film, not damage from impacts or normal ageing.

What if an edge starts to lift?

Leave it alone rather than pressing or picking at it, and call or text us. We will look at it and fix it.

Can I use an automatic car wash?

We recommend hand washing. Brush car washes can catch film edges and drag grit across the surface.
