Toyota LandCruiser 78 Troop Carrier

This LandCruiser 78 Troop Carrier came to us with a bull bar, roof racks, antennas and a rear wheel carrier. It left in Metallic Tungsten Steel, a gloss metallic grey from the Defcon Spectra colour PPF range, over the whole vehicle.

On a 4WD, colour PPF makes more sense than vinyl. It is a thick urethane film, so as well as changing the colour it takes the stone chips, gravel rash and light scratches that come with dirt roads. The factory paint stays underneath, and we register the job on Defcon’s e-Warranty, with manufacturer cover of 6 to 10 years depending on brand.

What makes it a full colour change is what you see with the doors open. The door jambs, the B-pillars and the shut faces of the doors are in the same grey, so opening a door never shows the old colour. The door trims came off so the film could run around the door edges and finish inside, out of sight.

Other parts came off too. The headlights were removed so the film could wrap behind them, and the fuel flap was filmed around its edge.

The result is a square, working 4WD with a deep metallic finish that catches the light along its flat sides, and a protective layer over every painted panel.
