This Audi R8 now wears acid green. The colour change was done in Inozetek Super Gloss vinyl wrap across the whole car.
Vinyl is the right choice when the main goal is a new colour. It is thinner than colour PPF, which keeps the cost down, and it comes in a very wide range of colours and finishes. Super Gloss vinyl is made to look like a deep gloss paint finish.
The R8 has big side blades, deep intakes and a low nose, and vinyl has to be stretched and set carefully on shapes like that so it stays down over time. The edges are wrapped where the panel allows, so the old colour does not show through at the gaps.
The factory paint stays underneath and can be seen again if the wrap is ever removed.
Vinyl is a cosmetic film, so it gives less impact protection than PPF. That is worth weighing up on a car that spends time on the freeway.
