A RAM 2500 is a lot of truck, with tall, flat panels that make any finish obvious. This one went from gloss black to satin black in full-coverage Defcon Spectra colour PPF.
Colour PPF suits a vehicle like this. It is thicker than vinyl, so it stands up better to gravel, branches and the knocks a big ute takes. It also protects the factory paint, which stays underneath.
The size of the panels is the challenge. The tray sides, doors and bonnet on a 2500 are large, and satin film shows any stretching or uneven tension as a change in sheen. Each panel was planned so the finish looks the same from every angle.
The result is a satin black that is also a protective layer over the whole vehicle.
The satin finish also hides dust and water spots better than gloss black, which helps on a vehicle that works for a living.
