Black paint on an older 911 tells the story of every wash it has had. This 997 came in with the swirl marks and fine scratches that build up over years, and it went home corrected and ceramic coated.
The correction came first. Machine polishing levelled the clear coat to remove the swirls and light marks, which is what brings back depth and clarity in black paint. The aim is to remove only as much as needed.
Then the paint was protected with a Gtechniq ceramic coating. A coating does not stop stone chips the way film does, but it gives a hard, glossy layer that makes the paint easier to clean and slows down the build-up of new wash marks.
Correction and coating suit a car like this, where the paint is worth keeping but full PPF is more than the owner needs.
The coating also makes the black easier to keep clean between details.
