Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Z71

A Silverado 2500 HD is a big target. Its tall front, wide guards and long tub sides catch everything thrown up on the road, and on a heavy-duty pick-up that is often gravel and stones rather than just freeway grit.

This 2026 Silverado Z71 came in black and left in satin black, wrapped from front to back in Defcon Frozen. Frozen is a clear satin film: it takes the gloss off the factory paint and gives it a soft, even sheen that suits a truck of this size, while protecting every painted panel underneath.

The size is the challenge. Large flat panels show any unevenness in satin film, so the doors and tub sides were laid in pieces as large as their shape allowed, and the edges were wrapped around the panel ends so no line of film shows. The film also protects the tub sides and tailgate from scuffs when loading.

Satin film needs simple care: a hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo, and no wax or polish, which can leave shiny patches. The truck spent five to seven working days in the studio.
