Gloss black is a beautiful finish and a hard one to keep. It shows every swirl and every chip. This X6 came in gloss black and went home in satin black, covered in Defcon Frozen satin PPF from front to back.
The film changes the look and the upkeep. Satin black hides the fine wash marks that gloss black shows straight away, and the film takes the stone chips and light scratches that would otherwise reach the paint.
An X6 has a long sloping roof and big flat doors. Those large panels show any unevenness in satin film, so each one was laid as a single piece wherever its shape allowed.
The factory gloss black is still there underneath, protected and untouched.
Looking after it is easy. A regular hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo is all it needs; polishes and waxes are not required on satin film and are best left on the shelf, because they can leave glossy patches.
